Job Title: EAL Teacher 英語老師

Start Time: ASAP

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic:

1.Plan, prepare and deliver effective and motivating English language lessons to students with limited English proficiency, ensuring that curriculum objectives and language learning goals are met.

2.Create engaging and interactive lessons which incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and resources to cater to diverse learning styles.

3.Teach students on a 1 to 1 or small group basis in accordance with arrangements made by the Head of EAL based on student need.

4.Assess students' English language proficiency and progress on a frequent basis, setting and marking homework regularly, providing constructive feedback and implementing strategies to support their individual needs.

5.Design and administer appropriate and regular assessments, including placement tests, formative assessments, and summative evaluations, to monitor student progress and proficiency.

6.Monitor homework completion and homework patterns to identify areas for development and to implement appropriate action.

7.Differentiate where appropriate to meet the language development needs of students with varying levels of English proficiency.

8.Monitor student progress, maintaining accurate records of the progress and development of EAL students.

9.Write reports as and when required.

10.Ensure that students reflect on their work and progress and set themselves suitable targets to improve.

11.Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes cultural understanding, respect, collaboration and teamwork, application and ambition, and appreciation for diversity.

Team Collaboration:

1.Collaborate with other teachers, in all year groups to develop and implement in-class strategies and materials for English language learners throughout the curriculum, providing support, guidance and expertise whenever necessary.

2.Support teachers in evaluating student progress through a range of assessment activities.

3.Carry out lesson observation and assessment as and when required to assist in the in-class provision of appropriate support for EAL students.

4.Support the DH Sixth and English teachers to prepare students for public examinations according to the specifications (IELTS, English Language).

5.Assist in the screening of EAL students throughout the school.

6.Contribute to the provision of the department at lunch time and after school, including one key meetings with line managers.

7.Stay informed of current trends, research, and best practices in EAL instruction and integrate them into teaching practices.

8.Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and workshops to enhance teaching skills and stay updated with the latest methodologies and resources.

9.Develop and run elements of the extra-curricular programme for EAL including trips, societies and speakers.

10.Liaise with the ALNCo to ensure best possible support for all EAL students.

11.Assist in the delivery of INSET/professional development sessions for colleagues on raising achievement for EAL students.

12.Play a part in the induction of new EAL students.

13.Liaise with the Deputy Head Academic to ensure all external examination specifications are relevant and appropriate.

Pastoral Care:

1.Build and develop strong relationships with all the students so that personalised support can be offered for their welfare.

2.Follow procedures relating to monitoring student welfare and, liaise with student mentors about pastoral issues concerning EAL students.

3.Support students with any safeguarding concerns ensuring these are passed on to the DSL or safeguarding team.

4.Nurture the well-being of every student in the School.

External Communication/Engagement:

1.Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, address concerns, and promote home-school partnerships to support language development.

2.Assist in presentations to groups of parents on how they can support their child’s language acquisition.

Additional Responsibilities:

1.Contribute to full and informative reports to parents within the reporting cycle.

2.Ensure equality of opportunity for all through the school’s policies, procedures and practices.

3.Attend staff meetings as and when required.

4.Contribute to the broader development of the department and its ethos through department meetings and taking the lead in some areas.

5.Promote an appreciation of and culture in both the department and the wider school.

6.Support the planning and setting up of presentations and exhibitions.

7.Act as a mentor in the Senior School if required.

8.Uphold the school’s code of conduct.

9.Maintain good order and discipline amongst students and actively implementing the school’s policies on rewards and sanctions.

10.Support students as appropriate at major school events and in other activities, e.g. plays, concerts, matches, etc.

11.Attend formal parents’ evenings, sometimes supporting classroom teachers with student progress. reports, and communicating with parents at other times as necessary.

12.Attend morning assembly.

13.Attend staff meetings, departmental meetings and briefings.

14.Undertake supervisory duties as required.

15.Play a full role in the wider life of the school, contributing actively to the co-curricular programme.

Other Duties:

1.Follow all agreed school policies and procedures as shared and in the Staff Handbooks.

2.Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by members of the Senior Management Team and any duties that the Head of Senior School and Head of EAL deem necessary for the effective operation of the School.

3.Comply with school procedures and legal responsibilities.

4.Uphold the school's uniform regulations.

5.Attend and participate in open days/marketing and development days.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

QUALIFICATIONS

1.Appropriate degree, with PGCE, or other teaching qualification giving QTS.

2.Level 2 Safeguarding Training is desirable.

LANGUAGE

1.Fluent in English.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

1.Minimum two years’ teaching experience in education in the UK or International School.

2.Experience and confidence in teaching the 3- 17 range as appropriate to duties within role.

3.Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language is desirable.

4.Experience in safeguarding and/or pastoral care.

COMPETENCIES

1.Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories, methodologies and best practices in EAL instruction.

2.Familiarity with the National Curriculum of England (plus IGCSE/GCSE and/or A Levels as appropriate).

3.Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic and socio-emotional needs of English language learners.

4.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an even-handed, sensitive approach, an understanding and empathy with the feelings and motives of others, able to see things from the perspective of others and able to interact effectively with students, parents and colleagues.

5.Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance instruction and facilitate language learning.

6.Effective and efficient administrative skills.
